      Ayodele Ojo

“As an artist, I am constantly changing or better yet growing, trying to express myself and understand the world around me at the same time. My goal is for my art to reflect the thoughts of a historian with a futuristic perspective, and it is in this category that I choose to identify.        “In an era marked by increasing globalization, the boundaries delineating race, nationality, gender and sexuality have become indistinct. It is within this context that I find immense fascination in exploring the nuances of self-identity, delving into the realm of cultural roots that trace back to my birthplace in Nigeria and my subsequent migration to Canada.

I have deep curiosity about Yoruba mythology, where the believe that our consciousness has both a physical and spiritual side. I try to show this idea through my paintings, especially in the self portraits. Rather than capture what I look like, I paint a deeper essence of who I am.

Sometimes I paint landscapes, but I mostly use watercolours for those. Before I begin painting, I spend a lot of time thinking and imagining what I want to create. It is a very thoughtful and reflective process for me. ”
